Carl Svebek III began fishing competitively at an early age, having joined his first bass club at the age of 9. He fished in his first B.A.S.S. Invitational in 1988 on Lake Sam Rayburn while still in college and finished 13th. It was then that he set his goal of becoming a successful professional fisherman. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in December 1990 and he married his wife, Kelly, in June 1991. In order to achieve his goal, he began fishing as many tournaments as possible, while working in public relations and sales for a local oil company in Lufkin, Texas. The Svebeks moved to the south end of Lake Sam Rayburn in 1994, where Carl continued in the oil business, worked as a guide and fished competitively in local tournaments. As he became more experienced and financially able, he began fishing the B.A.S.S. Invitationals. In 1995, Carl qualified to fish the 1996 B.A.S.S. Top 100 Circuit.

When Operation Bass expanded, he began fishing the Stren Series, scoring a win in the first Stren event held on Lake Sam Rayburn in March of 1998. It was that win that secured him a berth in the FLW Tour. Since becoming a regular on the FLW Tour, Carl has 7 Top Ten finishes and won the first ever Texas Tournament Trail tournament on Lake Sam Rayburn in 2001. He also competed in the inaugural ESPN Great Outdoor Games in Lake Placid in 2000. Carl is currently competing on the FLW Tour, FLW Series, and Central Stren Series He can also be seen appearing in Commercials for Wal Mart and Visa.

Carl is sponsored by Castrol, Ranger Boats, Evinrude Outboards, Berkley Trilene, Abu Garcia, Gambler Lures, Falcon Rods, and Gopher Industrial. His biggest supporters are his family--wife Kelly, daughters Carlie and McKenzie and son Christopher
